Earthquakes, and moving, and freaking out

Last night Wellington had its second earthquake in 3 days. Only small compared to Christchurch, but now what once was deemed fun and exciting is now bone-shakingly scary. The boy is in Melbourne, but the minute he gets back we’re going to organise an emergency kit. And i’m rather tempted, at least for this weekend while i’m home alone, to have a bag of warm clothes and essentials packed ‘just in case’. Paranoid, yes, but these are worrying times.

Just after the earthquake, the cat decided to start throwing up all over the house. I got a bit grumpy at this (it was 2.19am after all), thinking that it was because he’d eaten too much. But when he kept going, and it didn’t look like undigested food, I started to worry that something else was going wrong. On Twitter this morning someone suggested stress, and it makes sense: moving house, being in a new place with a dog to get used to, and then on top of that a couple of earthquakes? Surely it must be affecting us all in some way of another. The cat throws up. I lose my appetite. The boy gets annoyed with the cat (lucky he wasn’t here for the vomiting, I imagine he would have turfed the cat outside and then we would have had a whole other lost cat problem on our hands).

And of course, being all by myself in the house and having no one to talk to about it, I turned to Twitter. Sharing the fear about the tremor with many others that had been woken up by and it and done exactly what I had was reassuring. Needing to feel that I wasn’t entirely alone and isolated.

Today i’m going to wear red and black, again, to share my fear and pain with Christchurch in a visible way. Two little earthquakes putting Wellingtonians on edge has nothing even remotely close to what these incredibly strong people have been through over the past six months. Oh look at me, getting all teary just writing that. You are amazing Canterbury. I have so much respect for each and every one of you.

xx Tash

Dear Christchurch:

Knitters love you.

After deciding that 20% of Knitsch Sock sales wasn’t enough, 100% of all Knitsch seconds sold in the shop over the past week has also gone to the amazing Red Cross for their epic effort. $750 of love from knitters all over the place is now on the way to help those in need.

What a heartwarming experience! Thanks everyone for the support xx

Christchurch

Cross posted from Holland Road – as the old brain can’t come up with new info:

Wellington feels extremely far from Christchurch right now.

After a wonderful shop opening, i’m just catching up on the images connected to the news of the Christchurch earthquake, and I just feel ill.

Margaret and David Stove are ok, if shaken and without precious possessions.

As some small gesture, although it does seem very small – 20% of all Knitsch Sock sales online and instore until 1 March will go to the charity deemed to be doing the best work with people.

Kia kaha, Christchurch – all my love goes to you.

Webstock week = postage changes

Woot! It is Webstock week! I’m busy playing with the cool kids a Webstock, running things behind the scenes. Which means spending most of my time away from the shop.

If you place an order this week, I will be posting:

Order prior to 12pm Wednesday 16 Feb: posted Wednesday afternoon

Order between 12pm Wednesday 16 Feb and Sunday 20 Feb: posted Monday 21 Feb

If you have something you need urgently, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Just need a heads-up!

Oh, PS – happy valentine’s day! xxxx

daybreak

Being doin’ a spot of knitting.

This took me a whole 4 days (not straight, mind) knitting to make. Possibly because stripes get me going – I love colour changes.

Made in silver lining, Gwyneth (pink), Lucille (lavender) and…The William – a new colourway that will be released when the shop opens. It replaces Beauregarde, as I felt that purple could and should be more…purple. and deep. and luscious.

morning has broken
