Sock love

Twitter is a wonderful place – it introduced me to Pinterest – in love.

Moseying around, I found this wonderful post – all about socks. Beautiful, pretty, twee, cosy, cute socks – this winter is the year of showing off knitted socks, so careful shoe choice is in the works. Mmmmmm shoes….

too cute

Think the blog will be quickly added to the blog reader too….

Knitting inspiration 4.0 – or, a critique of Vogue knitting

Oh, Julie, the Samurai Knitter. I’m intrigued that her profile says that she is nomadic – curious.

Julie’s blog is worth adding to your ‘to read’ list if only for one thing – her very, very entertaining and critical assessments of each issue of Vogue knitting.

Beware: she swears.

oh dear dear meAltered image thanks to Julie, the Samurai Knitter, and, of course, Vogue knitting

But I adore that she says it how it is, the things we all are bemused or repulsed by. I would still buy the magazine regardless of what Julie says – although she does give good patterns credit (even if they are few and far between) and gives the quality articles excellent kudos.

Go on, have a giggle. And agree, or disagree, because that is what it is all about.

PS – it’s also a good reminder that, just because something is presented as what should be an amazing pattern, you don’t have to agree. There are some designers I just don’t get at all. So it’s nice to have someone that really does look at things critically.

Great big fat squishy…

worsted!

Luckily for you, some worsted has found itself in the workshop. Om nom nom it is so wonderfully squishy and soft and DELICIOUS!

A small but perfectly formed range of worsted colours will be launched at the same time as the shop – excitement all round!

What workshops?

Seeing as, ahem, someone hasn’t fixed the comments problem on the Holland Road website *sideways glance at myself* – i’ll pose the question here.

What sort of workshops would you like to be able to attend?

I’m thinking, as a quick list:

– beginner knitter regular classes

– cast on techniques

– sock knitting

– lace

– cables

– wee crafty projects beyond the realm of knitting

– beginner crochet classes

what would you like? And, importantly, whom would you like to be taught by?

A freezer full of yarn

About a week ago there was a wonderful coincidence. We had decided to retire the great big chest freezer in the garage as we had acquired a second wee one that now lives in the kitchen.

Around the same time, I was lamenting lack of yarn storage space. After dye camp the house was overflowing with yarn, mainly in preparation for the shop. So of course, these things being on my mind at the same time, there came a GENIUS idea.

Why not fill the freezer with yarn??

It’s a great big empty box, taking up a whole lot of room in the garage, and it’s unlikely we will get rid of it before the shop opens.

Someone told me the other day that I have become the Carrie of yarn – instead of shoes in the oven, I have yarn in the freezer.
