Feeling the joy

I admit, i’m an anxious person. I think I inherited it from my lovely dutch grandmother (not the lace knitting, book writing one, the other one).

Opening Holland Road Yarn Co has been such a joy – creating the dream in real life. And I adore it.

But the anxiety still creeps through. I worry. I get wound up. I put too much pressure on myself. And it’s been a noticeable trend on Twitter lately that i’m not the only person. Lots of people I know suffer from some sort of mental illness. And the anxiety thing – it’s not really the best way to live.

I know there are lots of solutions at my fingertips when it starts to show again – which means I need to put them into action.

Little things, like coffees by myself, exercising, dyeing yarn in new colourways with no deadlines or expectations, knitting, reading, watching movies, climbing mountains, snowboarding, writing, taking photos – all these things unwind the tightened rubber band and that’s when the magic happens – new ideas, grand plans, and all the rest.

What do you do when you feel a little overstretched? When things seem to be large obstacles rather than molehills?

A holiday of colour

The past long weekend was spent up at National Park, under the shadow of Mt Ruapehu. I love it up there – the cold air, the warm fires, lots of knitting time…and, of course, masses of inspiration for new colours…

I hope you had a great and relaxing long weekend.

Knit Your Own Royal Wedding

I’m not necessarily a huge royalist, but I do like me some pomp and circumstance, pretty dresses and a parade.

Which is all good and well with the upcoming nuptials of Wills & Kate – and isn’t it convenient that someone has come out with a knitting book just for the occasion.

This isn’t just any book of knitted toy patterns – it has a cardboard balcony that you can construct and place your newlyweds on, a pattern for corgis, and, a YouTube clip:

For true royalists, this is certain to be a collector’s item! We only have 2 in stock, so get in quick!

And more Knit Pro!

It has arrived! Boxes of wonderful Knit Pro needles and accessories. All the usual products in the online shop have been updated, including loads of cables and smaller sized tips.

Today i’ll be working on adding all the new goodies – crochet hooks, dpns, acrylic straights, and more! Yay!

And a little something to keep you entertained this cold Friday morning – a knitting song! If you’d like to see another one, head on over to the Holland Road blog. I’m sharing the love around today
